During HBOT, a person breathes 100% oxygen in a chamber pressurized above normal atmospheric pressure. This dramatically increases the amount of liquid oxygen flowing directly in the blood plasma (liquid o2 cannot be carried by red blood cells). That extra oxygen is what drives the anti-inflammatory effects.
Inflamed tissue is often:
• Swollen
• Poor blood flow
• Low oxygen areas
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy:
• Provides liquid oxygen to flow through plasma
• Allow oxygen to saturate damaged and small thin blood vessels
• Restores cellular metabolism (helps cells create energy normally again)
This helps cells exit the “stress” state that perpetuates inflammation.
Reduce swelling (edema)
HBOT causes mild blood vessel constriction without reducing oxygen delivery, which:
Less swelling means less ongoing inflammation and less pain
Normalizes immune cell behavior
Inflammation becomes chronic when immune cells stay active for too long.
HBOT:
Thus, the body heals itself.

HBOT promotes healing by increasing:
Once damaged tissue heals, the trigger for inflammation is removed.

Although oxygen can create free radicals, controlled HBOT:
This protects tissues from ongoing inflammatory damage.
In simple terms:
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy will heal inflammation by:
improving oxygen delivery → reducing immune overreaction → reducing swelling → fighting infection → repairing damaged tissue
